SF: Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, the Golden Gate Bridge, then drive up the Coastal Highway (US 101) and make sure you take your camera. You can stop in any number of little towns along the way. In Oregon, you can stop in Florence and check out the Sea Lion Caves, and then stop in Astoria (the town where Goonies was filmed). Then take 101 all the way to Olympia Washington, then you can go from there. In Seattle, do the Underground Tour, check out the Experience Music Project, and Pike Place Market. Have fun.

Take Highway 1 (out of SF) straight north along the coast, a beautiful drive but full of curves. Stop at Fort Ross (Russian Fort) if you like historical sites. Point Arena further north is truly a spectacular view of the ocean. Further north is Mendocino if you like heavy forest (Redwood).

I don't know how old you are but, I had a blast stopping at a few wineries in Sonoma county! Tasted some really good wines!
(Most places charge $5.00 for up to 5 different wines).
