mine are slightly high up and have a weird sounds, so iam wondering if this will help

If you do lower your bridge, be careful because you might get too low and get fret buzz.

I'm assuming it's an electric bass. Having the strings closer in itself will not make a difference to the sound, but may eliminate what I think is your problem ..if you are picking the string slightly before your finger presses it against the fret board, you will get a kind of muffled sound. If the strings are closer, your finger will press the string to the fretboard quicker, ie before you pick it. What's happened to you often happens if this is a new intrument, which is why most us like the same kind (I like the Fender Bass, it has a crisp snap). If you dont want to re-string you could try slowing your pick a little.
