i fell while going down the stairs to my backyard (just two steps) my left elbow landed on the border of the top step, while my lower back hit the border of the lower step. Felt a tingling sensation from the elbow to the lower right side of the palm of my hand and after a couple of minutes there was a bump on this same spot on my hand which is tender and makes my elbow hurt when touched, and it hurts the other way around when I touch my elbow. Just curious what could have caused this bump on the palm of my hand. Did I hurt a nerve? a muscle? Elbow is still sore and hurts some. Cant really manage to grab and hold things on my left hand since it starts shaking and can't really control the strength of the grip... any diagrams or idea of what could have happened here? (I'm on my way to the Dr now.... but I appreciate any comments on the matter)

If the tingling was in the ring and pinky fingers, you may have irritated the ulnar nerve which runs along the inside of your elbow. This is the same area that you injure if you hit your "funny bone." This nerve supplies the control for a lot of they muscles that help with flexing the wrist and gripping, if it is injured you may experience weakness with those motions. Usually the strength will return within 2-7 days. It is always a good idea to visit a doctor if things are not getting better. Beyond a visit to the doctor, there is not much you can do but wait for the irritation to calm down. I am an athletic trainer. Good luck.

There are several muscles which control the fingers/hand which connect at the elbow and the other end in the hand. You most likely sprained one of the muscles, possibly tearing a ligament. These injuries will heal with time, but may take months to become almost back to normal. Your doctor may refer you to occupational therapy . In the meantime, you will have to deal with swelling and some pain. Good luck!

Sounds like they are going to have to amputate! Nah, it's probably just sprained
