I'm from England - living in Texas. I don't have anything against American guys. I've met lots of great guys and also some jerks. If a guy is really nice and treats a woman right - whats not to like?

As you didn't restrict answers to women only, I thought I would throw my view out there.
In short, you answered your own question. The "our women" thing is a huge turn-off for most English (and other European) women. On the whole, they don't like to be thought of as belonging to anyone or necessarily feel the need to rely on a guy to "look after" them. It's largely a question of attitude and in the single sentence you wrote, you highlighted exactly why some (not all, by any means) don't like the attitude adopted by many American men.
Being a UK guy, married to a British woman and having lived in the US for the last 5 years, I have witnessed first hand this unattractive attitude quite a lot.

I'm Welsh and I don't have anything against American guys although some of them are really sexist, laddish ("lad" = "Jock") and loud. We like our men to be gentlemen.
I had a fling with a bloke from Atlanta, Georgia once. He had a very sexy Southern Accent!

I am not English, I'm an Aussie but I thought I would answer any way. I find American men that I have met have all been loud and obnoxious I won't say that is the same for all American men but I am yet to meet one that isn't. I prefer laid back guys...
