My four month old has been pushing her bottle out of her mouth with her tongue and playing around with the nipple. She then gets frustrated when she is eating and also pushes some formula out when we feed her. Why is she doing this?

Did you try washing her mouth out using a baby rag with warm water might be just bitter taste. Also, she might just be full and your over feeding her.She could be ready to start eating solid foods. My brand of choice is beech nut. Begin with Stage 1 rice cereal then introduce other food items after 5 days or more to check for allergic reactions. All else fail consult pediatrician.

It sounds like she's learning the ins and outs of using her tongue to swallow, which is a good indication she's getting ready for solids. If her bottles don't seem to be satisfying her, start with cereal if you haven't already. Mix a little cereal in a small bowl with some formula and spoon feed it to her. Some people put it in the bottle with the formula, but everything I've read said not to do that. Good luck! She's growing, and it sounds like you are doing a great job.

My son is 4 months and he is doing the exact same thing. He is more interested in playing and not taking the nipple. He nibbles on the nipple or thrusts it out and he also brings his hands to the bottle and pushes the bottle. This is what we are doing with him.

1. Wait for him to get hungry instead of giving the milk right on the dot.
2. Distract him with musical toys so his attention is elsewhere.
3. Give him a blankie to grab so his attention is on the blankie.

Im curious if it's because she doesn't like that particular nipple. My daughter is on the playtex nursers Stage 1 and 2 work fine. Also, she could be distracted by you so you could try propping the bottle up with a blankie underneath then walk away and sit where you can see and hear her then that might help.
But Im thinking it could be the nipple. You will figure it out, don't worry.

She is ready for solid food. Start her off with some Stage 1 green beans and peaches. Make sure you give her plenty of water so she won't become constipated.
