Not necessarily. I did mine yesterday and it kept all my files and folders and my installation programs, but still reinstalled windows, all the original drivers etc... However, I wanted mine reformetted so I had to do it again anyway!

when you run the quick restore (or what ever your brand of PC calls it) what you are doing is re-imaging your hard disk. This is the same process that the factory uses to load the system before shipping it.

The hard drive is completely re-written and all traces of what ever you may have had on it will be gone.

Use with care.

How do you plan to "set your pc back to factory settings"? I don't know of any way to do that but will guess if there is a way you would loose everything you put on it after you got it.
After reading the other answers I want to caution you that you cannot back up programs - they would need to be reinstalled.

yes , if you are using a restoration partition common on some hp , and compaq pc's yes it will set everything back , if your going to use a restoration disk , i would backup everything you want to save to a 2nd hd , or cd , because the best way to restore a pc is to delete (fdisk) the partition and start with a clean install

Definitely.

So, I suggest you buy an external hard disc/drive and transfer all your files and documents there before you reset your PC to its factory settings (which is how it was when you bought it.)

unfortunately, the pc factory settings basically format the drive and set it up as it was when you bought it, so what you must do if you need to save all your files is to back them up to a cd or external drive etc.

Yes, unless you set partitions for old files. Just back everything up onto disc BEFORE you do it. Takes ages btw.
