The u.s. aren't backing down over irans nuclear program and apparently Iran are going to continue regardless(unstoppable train!) so if it came down to it are the U.S. capable of going to war with iran considering current events ?do Iran know they cant stretch to this?

If Bush would get off his high horse and agree to talk things over with Iran a little it might well take a lot of pressure off the situation.
The major driving force behind Iran’s nuclear program is the threat of a US military invasion.
They may well agree to back off of that situation and cooperate further with routing out terrorists and help secure the peace in Iraq if only they were given the chance to engage in a more rational diplomatic discussion other than Bushes Texas Cowboy rhetoric of " You do not speak with your enemy"
If he only took time to know his enemy he may well find out that reasonable cooperation and subsequent arbitration with Iran may well hold the key to the solution he most desperately seeks..
Jesus said something to the effect that in order to remove the spec from the eye of the enemy you must first remove the log in your own eye.

US can't anywhere near stretch to a war with Iran, and Iran know this - to answer your question directly. However, don't know where you're from, and USA tends to be much more insular than Europe say, and neo-cons even more insular, so they often think in a vacuum without any debate or contradictory views.
Top Republicans were well capable of starting invasion of Iraq for purely internal US political reasons, so are equally capable of doing the same with Iran - if they were to believe that they would lose the next election, in which case a war and appeal to patriotism historically pulls Americans behind the president and current administration.
Bingo!

The US could start a war, but the impact would be devastating to America, the Middle East region and perhaps the world.

Iran won't back down because they are well within their right to enrich Uranium for energy purposes. They say there is no weapons program. There is nothing to prove Iran have a weapons program and experts say they would need 10 years to develop a weapon even if there was a program.

Iran is a well armed, strong nation and is 4 times the size of Iraq in land mass and population. Any American attack would lead to disaster and death to American's and Iranian's

There is no need to attack Iran. Anyone thinking the US can simply bomb them and walk away is ignorant to reality.

Take a lesson from Iraq. if the same thing happens in Iran the Americans better watch out. A war which Bush stated would be over very soon is in it's fourth year in Iraq so God knows if they take on Iran they could be out there a very long time.
I just hope the British troops are withdrawn soon.

Its a shame that your main concern is if the US can sustain another war and not the thousands of innocent people will be killed when US planes (spinelessly) drop bombs in Iran. How is that these countries have only become a problem after Sep 11th.
If I remember correctly, the US supplied Iraq with weapons not too long ago. Were they not terrorists then ?

Iran is not wanting a war. US wants the war, not for the reasons you mention, but for political and economical control of the area.

Maybe you would say is a point of view. But i recommend you to read most articles you can, but not necesarilly from US media, but european, and middle eastern in english. Theres more information there than in the US media, and from my point of view, and most of the people outside the US, CNN or fox, etc. They just give you a manipulated version of the news. They did the same strategy to justify a war in iraq for no reason.

The best way to get the most accurate info is researching as much as you can. Do it and spread the word. We dont want a war that is going to be terrible for the planet.

i think iran WILL back down. the US can't afford to go war now esp with so many of the troops dying in other battles. however, this does not mean that the US will lose if they do go to war. as far as i've heard, the US has no plans for any war as well. so increased and harsher sanctions will have to make iran change for the better of its ppl there so it may not be as unstoppable as it is now.

iran is a different animal to iraq & affganistan(?)
iran is vrey willing and able to defend its self from attack, it would be a full scale war & israil would undotobly get involved, which in turn would set off the lebanon and syria.
disatabaliseing the entier region & probably starting world war 3.
japan, north korea & china would kick off, there ready to blow any time.

then there is india & packistan, both nuclear powers who have fught for decades over kashmier.

it wouldnt be so bad for europe(ignoring the fact 100,000+ troopes would be involved from countrys accross europe) if the conflict dosent go nuclear, apart from belgum. they always get invaded, poor little belgum.
