Not a garter snake. I would guess some sort of earth snake or maybe a brown snake but almost looks to big for either of those, first pic looks kind of like a racer but looks a little young for its color.Where did you find it? If you found it in the US it isnt venomous. Pics are too blurry for a positive ID.

The snake appears to be a colubrid, brown on top with a creme color ventral, scales keeled.. and guessing from the size of the stick maybe 3 feet long ? but that is all I can tell.. I wish you had a better photo.

Since there is no such thing as a gardner snake, I would guess a garter snake, maybe some type of rat snake. It is hard to tell with the pic, but it is probably one of them and either would be calm enough for you to pick up by the hand, even if they bite, they won't hurt you, it is just the shock of seeing it strike that scares people.

Depends on where you live as to what kind it is. Many snakes are similar enough that a blurry photo will not tell anyone anything.

Could be several species.
I'd suggest either a garter, a brown tree snake, a rosy boa, or some kind of a king snake. I'd really have to see the head to be sure, but my early money is on one of those four.

depends on where you live if you just caught it in your yard. and better pics that show the head, scales and that are actually focused too would help, but another help would be to give an approximate length
