My friend and I were having this conversation. She believes it is wrong for a Black and White couple to date or become married but she doesn't think it is wrong for Chinese and Black to marry or a White and Hispanic to marry, She only thinks it is wrong for Whites to marry Blacks. Or unless the non white is exceptionally dark.

Is she prejudice or racist?

What your friend needs to realize is that her beliefs about who can and cannot marry is based upon her perceptions of different races. She feels that white is the superior race and that other races may or may not be "good enough" to pair up with a white person. This is racist - when you think that your race is better than others. She is also prejudiced because she has negative beliefs about others based upon stereotypes. No race is better than another.

No i dont think so. I believe its ok for anyone to date but some people think that because of the controversy behind it then we should just stick to what doesnt hurt anyone else. Sounds like your friend either is racist or shes one of those millions of people that would rather agree with the larger group of persons then stand up and argue.

No. There are plenty of valid genetic reasons for not wanting your children to be of mixed race.
If she were racist, anyway, she'd also think it was wrong for a white an an hispanic to marry and she think it was wrong for an asian and a black to marry.
Given what you say that she said, I doubt she's at all concerned with racial purity and is instead just expressing her own personal preferences about the kind of man she'd date or marry.

Yes, she definately has racist tendencies. To say that some interracial marriages are fine, but others are not is a hypocritical attitude.

It's a shame that all people can't just see each other as "people".

Tell your friend to get counseling, because something is wrong in her noggin.

Well, to me, she may be a bit of both but apparently for whatever reasons, she doesn't like the black and white combo....personally I am not sure why she is so worried about it, if she doesn't want to marry outside her own race that is up to her but what makes her feel like she needs to sit in judgement of others.......

She is stupid. That's for sure. I don't know how to define "racist". I respect people's right to fall in love and marry anyone they want to, but I am sure the comment made by her is a racist comment. The more you communicate with her, the more you will know about her. God.

She's both. It is one thing to believe interracial dating is wrong, but she's basing it on Black and White, and then further complicating it by saying it's okay only if the White person is dark. Your friend has issues, but she's your friend, not mine. If you're okay with it, so be it.

I would say she is. It's one thing to say interracial relationships are, wrong, but that is a lot more complicated (what you say she said). I personally believe, if you like someone, date them, regardless of their race or gender. People deserve to be happy, and shouldn't be prosecuted by societies stupid boundaries.

I wouldn't stick a label on her just yet. Ask her why she feels that way. By the way, since this question is in the R&S section, the bible says nothing about inter racial marriage. It instructs believers not to be "unequally yoked", which means a believer with a non believer, nothing about not marrying other races.
