It takes such a long time for my computer to start that I've been using standby; but sometimes when I turn my monitor on, I find that my computer has restarted by itself, with my desktop page on. I have no way of knowing how long it has been on.

if you put your computer on standby, all it does is shut down the hard disk and monitor so that when you come back, all you need do is use any type of input device (mouse, spacebar etc,) and it starts right back up, this is because it has not lost its volatile memory(RAM) and will start back up quite quickly, If this is not happening on your machine, I'd suggest you do a thorough scan for spyware and scumware on your machine

You may want to just shorten the time it takes for yor system to boot(or start).

There are too many things loading @ boot. Here is how to remove them.

From the start menu go to RUN, type "msconfig", choose "selective start up". At the top of the page click start up. You can uncheck everything on this list. There's nothing there that must run @ boot. They will be accessible when you call for them, not to worry but, once you do they will go back on this list. So, periodic visits here are required to keep it clean. At least that's the way I do it . Good luck
