A nickname doesn't necessarily have to be part of the name. My son's name is Michael and we always call him Doozer! Weird I know, but it's because when he was a baby he looked exactly like one of the doozer people on Fraggle Rock! I still call him my little doozer and he's 7yrs old now!!

my husbands name is Francis we just call him Francis,
his sister used to call him Frac G (Frank G) because of the last name was G.
his neiece is named Frances (after him) they call her either Frances or Franny

I think it will just come to you. One day you will be saying his name and a nickname will just come out. My cousins name is Crysta and one day I walked in and said "hi carebear" without even thinking and from then on that was her nickname.
