You should do your topic on something that provides a lot of information. I took two classes in Composition and received perfect grades. When it was hardest was when the topic dealt with something that did not provide a lot of information. I would advise picking something political you are on one side of, and doing that. Check my 360 profile for my award-winning essay on smoking, if you wish. I got an A on that, and I didn't even know if agreed with myself, being a casual smoker and all. Good luck!

Do it on something you have a passion for. It's easier and "more fun" to write.
Ideas:
- Write a personal essay on an experience you had that was funny, scary, dramatic, etc.
- Write a persuasive essay, making the reader believe something that you believe.
- Write an essay on...

i once did an essay on swear words used by my peer group. it had the teacher in stictches, and can be quite topical, we're always redeveloping language and meaning.

you could do something based on current events, someone you admire (historical figure or someone in your life), what you are passionate about (art, sports, etc.), something controversial and write about the pros and cons of it, write about somewhere you have traveled, write about another culture (interesting religious ceremonies or traditions), it's endless really.
