It may have something to do with the "red carpet". Red is associated with filmography. Also, red is a bright color and I can't imagine there being a yellow carpet, pink carpet, blue carpet, etc. Red is just a universal color of greatness and superiority!!!

I would think that red has been chosen because of it setting the atmosphere for the cinema - red, associated with love, warm feelings etc etc. I think that the theatre directors would want film goers to feel at the movie, warm, loved, relaxing etc. The colours are generally deep , making for a cosy atmosphere.
Its an awesome question, cause you know, I bet not too many ppl have wondered over that!

ya know i had to think about this one...and although most of the new ones in bc are now all blue think it was the illussion of the special red carpet event? is only a guess...

so when there are movie premiers, the actors have a red carpet to walk on. and while they were at it, the decoraters decided to make the whole place red.
