I have just been reading an old (1946) book that mentions this remarkable Montana city. What is its current economic health, prospects, population, etc.

The current economic health of Butte, MT can be assessed by referring to the chamber of commerce.

The approximate population is: 33,892 as of the 2000 census.

It should be noted that it is considered the largest 'Superfund' site. This indicates that potentially hazardous material has been identified and could hamper further development, pending review from the federal government.

That said...investment opportunities should be researched at great length in order to ascertain economic sustainability of any venture.
