I saw a question, "Why today's teens and kids so dumb?" I completely disagree with this statement. Not because it offends me, I am 15, and it doesn't offend me, but because it is so untrue. I know that my generation acts dumb, and they do stupid things, but we are all great minds. My best friend gets horrible grades, and comes across as ignorant and stupid, but she is just the opposite. I do believe my generation is different, very much so. But I do not believe they are dumb, or stupid. We may come across that way, but if you were to sit down with some of my generation, they have many things to say. We have morals, and we have values, we are just misunderstood in so many ways. I know we're not adults, but we are going to be someday, and we will be voting for the future, and we will shape the future. Why would you think my generation is dumb, and/or stupid? Opinions?

Okay I was just pissed off, so do not count my grammar mistakes and tell me I'm illiterate and stupid. I know that it was a question, not a statement, and a few other mistakes I'm sure I made. I typed it too fast, I suppose.

I also just wanted to add, that it is much more than actually being smart. We have so much going for us, we all seem to be able to identify with loss and grief so well, and we just have so many other qualities besides our IQ. A generation is made of many things, what they've dealt with, and what they believe (religion ect) and just so many things make a generation. I just believe that my generation is going to do so much, and I can't explain it, but I feel so proud to be apart of it, that I found that previous question to be offending.

I'm twice your age and when I was your age, I was never considered stupid but my age group was generally considered dumb by older people.
It's part of the life cycle, I guess. Adults and teenagers live in different worlds. both can't understand the world of the other. For teenagers, adult life is full of unncessary traditions, assumptions, social limitations, etc. For the adults, teenager's lives are full of wasted energies and nonsense.
There are many things I do not understand with the teenagers today but I always keep in my mind that perhaps teenagers find logic in things that I do not even though i don't, the same way I did when I was a teenager. (Like I do not understand scream metal music today but I used to play heavy metal in my teens)
But don't lose your head over this. adults and teenagers need to be in conflict with one another. It makes life more exciting. For me, as an adult, if teenagers do not do what they do, which adults often find stupid, we will not discover new things.
Here's a tip though. Try to find a picture of your parents in their teens then show it to them. Remember their embarassment then make sure you would not be as embarassed when your children show you your pictures today.

I'm 17 so I am included. This is said about every generation. They're dumb and someday theses retards will be in charge. It's just adults afraid to pass the torch, afraid of getting old. No generation is on a whole, dumb.

Don't let them get to you. I'm 25, and my lot's been dealing with the same bs all our lives (although I have found myself muttering "stupid teenagers" at the mall. Sorry). Actually, each generation has to deal with it. You can find writings dating back to the Roman era talking about how awful kids these days are and how they're ruining everything. You shoulda seen what they said about the Greatest Generation (the Great Depression/WWII guys)! And we get to keep moaning about how mean, unfair, and unsufferably self-obsessed the older generations are (sorry, to my esteemed elders).
I figure, ten or twenty more years, the Baby Boomers will all be retired, we'll be in power, and my lot can start reminiscing about grunge and how great we are.

The person who wrote that question was an idiot. He has an inferiority complex and feels insecure because the kids of today are so knowledgeable about computers and technology, so he had to insult your whole generation. I've worked as a substitute teacher in middle school, so I KNOW how smart the young people of today are!!!
BTW, the people who complain about your spelling and grammar are also idiots who have inferiority complexes - that's why they have to nitpick and criticize about petty stuff!!!

The answer is all to simple. It's every generation! Not just yours. When your parents were kids, your Grandparents were saying the exact same thing.
Every generation that grows up does not seem to understand the one after it. and that is just the way life is.
Some day you will have kids and you will say, "What are these kids thinking?"
Trust me! It's not you, it's life.
:O)

"They" always say our generation lacks intelligence for the simple fact that...WE'RE KIDS! The minority of us don't surf the most beautiful art of wire works called the internet and look up the curent events, we look up what Paris Hilton wore at the Grammy's. Don't misconstrue my words...SOME of us...not all. One bad apple spoils the ENTIRE bunch. "They" doubted the kids of the 50's when they adored this new craze called "Rock & Roll" but look at them now...being hypocrites. Don't take it personal....our generation will have that enjoyment in 30 years.

This happens with every new generation. It is because some of the older folks have trouble with change.

People look at all the BAD examples of teens and use that to judge all of us instead of focusing on GOOD examples of teens.
