Q: Why do people collect NBA cards?
A: Mainly because they like a particular player, their teams, the graphic works, dunks, for the insert cards, or solely as an investment.

Q: when people collect do they try to complete a team or the top 10 players or ... ?
A: I believe that nowadays people collect because of :
i) Superstar ballers.
ii) Tough-to-pull insert cards. People buy boxes and packs hoping to pull a parellel insert, numbered parellels, an autograph, jersey swatches or other game-worns. Low odds inserts do not generate much excitement these days.
iii) Rookie cards. Since RCs have been printed in lower volumes, people are paying top prices for top rookies.
iv) Form of investment. I have heard of people who purchase lots of RCs hoping to make profits out of them.
