If the propeller description said "13 1/2 x 17" what does the 13 1/2 mean? Im pretty sure the 17 is the pitch, but i havnt a clue about the first number. I have a 1975-1980ish 140hp evinrude, and dont know what propeller to get for it. it is a 15 spline though.

....The boat is a 16ft ski/fishing boat (1979). It has a tri hull. I need to know how to get a prop that is long enough to butt up against the "exaust" part of the lower unit. Im not sure what thats called, but the last prop i got on ebay was not long enough. It was short about 3-4 inches, but it still fit on the shaft. How do i get one that fits that too?

"What propeller to get for it" is a serious question. May I ask what is wrong with that'n. To get the most out of your motor, you must run a slip calculation. If this is not possible, give me the model # or serial # of the motor. It's located starboard side of transom bracket on a ID plate. This will give me the year so's I can get the gear ratio and go from there. A description of your boat would help me make a educated guess. The right prop does matter! Like I said, a slip calculation is a must for the perfect prop. Let me know what you want to do.............The 15 tooth spline is the low gear gear case. It's designed to accommodate a large dia prop. Depending on your size of boat, which you failed to mention, I would have to say that a 14.25 X 17 thru 15 X 17 would be your best bet. Now if you have a bass boat, the 13.5 dia.would be the correct choise, but the 17 pitch would leave lot's to be desired hence that pitch is for standard applications. That's a 1977 by the way. How big is your boat ?......................What you are describing is the length of the barrel.wrong thrust washer or just the wrong prop. If it were mine I would put a UN200PTC3R17S-3 with the UN087 thrust washer on there. But being you are the E bay shopper, I would suggest crossing over the #'s that I have described, for a more affordable application. That be a 14.25 X 17 for a 4.75 gear case. Glad to help. Good luck.

13 1/2 is the diameter, 17 is the pitch. More pitch gives you more speed (if the engine can pull it) and less gives you more power.

the first # is the diameter. the 2nd # is the distance the prop will travel in one revolution...all measured in inches.
