Crime is, for the most part, very regionalized in Houston. I'll cite an example I posted in another recent thread:

Three miles south of me are a grouping of late-70s vintage apartment complexes. They have police going in and out at all times, a lot of arrests, and it isn't uncommon to hear about muggings and burglary and worse.

Where I live there is little crime. I often exercise late in the evening, and the only others out are doing the same. You don't hear the thumpa-thumpa of rap music at all hours of day and night, and the only time I see HPD is when they are writing tickets to soccer mom's speeding in their SUVs. In reality, the dividing line is closer than that. I know a nice neighborhood even closer, divided from the "worse" area by Buffalo Bayou. Street intersections can divide good areas from bad, and for reasons that still have me scratching my head.

Imagine being the 4th largest city of America. Crime is bad everywhere. In case you haven't watched the news, people are getting shot in little towns too. Aren't freakin 95% of the school shootings in small towns? People are crazy in all 50 states. Sure Houston has new citizens here from the Katrina situation, and a few of those people have been causin' havoc. We also have a counterproductive justice/probation system that lets criminals out when they shouldn't be seeing the light of day. It's sad...but where can you really go to escape it? And the "nicer" areas of town aren't much different. They have crazies just like the rest of us. Look at Clear Lake alone (The diaper-wearin astronaut, Clara Harris runnin over folks, and Andrea Yates)....Woodlands crime is going up too..

Pearland is starting to be from a sleepy little city to a warm spot top now with a lot of latest shape. Houston does no longer have a coastline and Galveston is 60 miles away. sparkling Lake has various the reward of the two. The East section, a community divided North and South by I-40 5, is the worst section. in basic terms north of I-10 to Beltway 8 is and section i does no longer stay in. The West section consists of the villages of Memorial and River o.ok. that are recognized as the two maximum presigeous aspects. I stay in Piney factor, a village of Memorial, and that's heavan with solid colleges, huge plenty and astounding properties. Sugarland and Katy are a ways west, south and due west respectively, and are medium to huge properties with solid neighborhoods and procuring for much less money yet a much better shuttle to downtown. The Heights is closer to downtown and is blended yet very in top now. you may look there besides. Public colleges may well be a probelm there. have exciting and welcome to Houston.

crime id bad everywhere. crime prevention is what keeps people out of trouble. so do we have silly people that leave bags and boxes in their backseat after shopping? that wil tempt even the more straight and narrow. also. we have pretty good patrol in the better areas and then we have sucky patrol i other areas. so it kinda depends on where you are and how careful you are at all times.

what do you consider "very bad"

there is violence everywhere you go.

houston is a larger city and yeah there is a lot of violence.

i've lived here all my life and i and none of my family members have been victims of violence. not even any of my friends.

i can only suggest that you stay aware of our surroundings, lock your doors, avoid walking alone in dark places, and if you need to, carry pepper spray on your key chain.
