Don't let your family detour you from your dream. Take classes and if you go to college (which I recommend) take up theater as a major, that way you can teach in between gigs after you graduate. Attend any and all workshops that you can find in your community. A lot of them are free. If you are more free spirited than to want a nine to five, get a job waitressing or becoming a waiter. There's a lot of money in that if you are personable and work hard. I let my mother detour me from my dream of becoming a recording artist and I resent that to this day. I wish you luck.

Have you been taking drama/acting classes? If not do so, (this is great for curing shyness). Also check out local theater groups, and just audition for everything, (even if you don't get a part, it is great practice) The summer, before my senior year of high school, I auditioned for a community Shakespeare in the park, production, (I was only 17,so I did not think I would get a part), but I did land a small role, and to my sup rise, my high school drama teacher was in the play too! Later I won a theater scholarship to college, so difficult,? a little, but not impossible, and when you get nervous, remember this, YOU only get one chance to live your life, So go for it, you only regret want you did not do, not what you tried to do.good luck. p.s. start memorizing monologes, it's good practise, for learning lines quickly!

Learn the business first.......Start as a movie extra so you can see what you are up against . Then take lesson in business and acting . It's hard at first until you get your foot in......even extras make good money if you get picked up for a show but it is all on you and your desire.......don't let anyone talk you out of your dreams .........even your close family

You need to do some little theater and get yourself a portfolio built up and then look for an agent. One my friends wrote a book called Kids in the Biz.. its on amazon.com it can give you an idea what you have to do to get into 'system'.

I would suggest having acting be something that you don't rely on for money, until it looks like you'll be able to. Do it on the side. I agree with one of the other posts, that suggested Toastmasters for confidence (and acting skills).
Best of luck.

Honey, learn to deal with rejection now. You will get a lot of doors slammed in your face. Learn not to take it personally.
