Well since communism and fascism weren't even in anyone's theoretical or philosophical thought process, that would explain why that didn't happen. They didn't want a theocracy because they were fleeing from religious persecution. They wanted a non-religious state. Freedom of religion, so you can rule that out. These people were mostly commoners who wanted the people to rule and not a monarchy. That is why they chose democracy.

Awesome answer above. They chose democracy because they learned from history's mistakes. They looked past the superficial benefits of any other type of government and implemented a government that would allow for adaptation over time. They used Judeo-Christian ethics as a foundation and build on that with experience.

they didn't choose fuadalism or theocracy because that is what they had faced in one for or another before the revolution. Communism had not been invented. No other govenment could come as close to lasting with the vast array of different regions we have in the states. Ag, industrial, metro- desert, beaches, plains, mountains, forrest. No other gov't system allows for the representation of so many different regions.

Because the founders had dealt with all sorts of governments in Europe and were sick and tired of being told what to do, what to believe, what to say. Many other Americans felt the same way. The ideas of freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness ( if interested in these and other ideas of enlightenment read John Locke) were too deeply rooted into the hearts and minds of the people that anything besides a democracy would have been instantly discarded.

The US chose democracy because it is the most suited system for the Americans who wanted freedom of the people as a priority in life. Democracy made America the superpower that it is now.

Because just like the citizens of all those other failed systems you mentioned, our forefathers experienced oppression first hand, and realized that when the time came to make a change for the better they had to dig deeply within their souls for the inspiration to create a system which honored all human's inalienable rights.

Make no mistake, we are the only nation on Earth blessed with the distinction of being the only Global SuperPower, as well as the richest, and most benevolent and charitable, need I go on.

Bob the builder of the wall guy: Do you honestly think America invented democracy. Try Ancient Greece.

We didn't choose democracy...we chose a Republic...the difference is representation as a opposed to mob rule...and apparently the cause of MUCH confusion in today's society...
