Louis XIV (the Sun King) brought peace to France and encouraged the arts and social reforms. Yes, he spent lavishly but he had the income of the French colonies and France itself was not hurting for most of his life.

The truly ruinous spending occurred in the reign of Louis XVI. By then France had lost their colonies in the New World to England and France WAS hurting for money.

Louis XIV was a great monarch, and he was capable of maintaining strong kingdom because he never, in his entire life, doubted his right to be king.

His autocracy was indeed amazing, and truly an example of the kind. He lived and ruled as a king should have. Louis XIV became the ideal king, and many have tried unsuccessfully to live up to his glory.

he was the last great french monarch. after him the french monarchy went a bit wrong...what with the royal funded religious wars,and the revolution!!
He was the last great absolutist monarch, with absolute control over all aspects of French life. He also had a fascination with his legs (sorry, have a thing for random knowledge......Napoleon was short too, and Hitler was a dyslexic inbred Austrian rofl!!)

Because he was one of the bests kings who has existed in the french history, also, he did amazing things with his country and he brought the prosperity to that country.

wasn't he the one who came before the french revolution and was a greedy aristocrat and had some dealings with bonepart? or am i confused now? definately around 1790 and probably a pompus ****
