I frequently browse the internet and download things sometimes. I am wandering what I should be getting to protect my computer from viruses or anything harmful to my computers. Should I be getting Norton AntiVirus, Norton Confidential, or Norton Internet Security? I previously used Internet Security after a friend installed it. But now I am wandering, what should I be using? Any help would be appreciated.

Norton products have had a lot of problems lately. McAfee is not much better. go with AVG from Grisoft.com. Here's some others:
EXCELLENT Free Anti-Spyware:
--AVG Anti-Spyware http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 is a free anti-spyware protection tool developed by GRISOFT for home use.
--SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY http://www.safer-networking.org/ Download and install Spybot - Search & Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
--AD-AWARE http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware Download and install Ad-Aware. You should use this program to scan your computer on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
--SpywareGuard http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
--SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.

EXCELLENT Free ANTI-VIRUS and Firewall Programs:
ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE It is very important that you have anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.
--AVG Anti-Virus http://www.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
--ZoneAlarm Anti-virus/Firewall http://www.zonelabs.com

After comparing the three Norton products you asked about, I would go with the Norton Internet Security.
For one, Norton AntiVirus serves as excellant antivirus wear, but does not provide a firewall. While the Norton Internet Security includes the antivirus service included in the Norton AntiVirus. In fact, the Norton Internet Security includeds:
Automatically detects and blocks viruses, spyware, and worms
Advanced phishing protection identifies and blocks fraudulent websites
Rootkit Protection finds and removes hidden threats in the operating system
Smart firewall blocks hackers and stops spyware transmitting unauthorized information
Intrusion Prevention automatically shields newly discovered security vulnerabilities
Network protection configures security settings when logged on at home, or on public networks
Full System Scan performs a deep scan to remove existing viruses, spyware and other threats
Norton Protection Center provides a central place to easily check overall security settings
Includes protection updates and new product features as available throughout the renewable service period **
(from the Norton webpage describing the differences in the programs you named).
While Norton Confidential is an excellant program, it is mainly to keep your shopping habits and any information from being tracked, or hacked, and this can be done with the firewall protection you will receive with Norton's Internet Security. The price may be higher than the Norton's Antivirus, but you get so much more protection for your computer. And since you are more worried about keeping your computer free from viruses, and other harmful threats, the security provided by Norton Internet Security should do the trick. It has a firewall and that is essential to protecting any computer, as is an antivirus program, since this contains both, along with adwar protection and popupblockers and just abvout all the protection you may need, I know it is what I would go with if I could afford it right now.
One must remember that the security program we have is only as good as the way it is configured, so be sure you understand how to configure the settings. The tech support wil help you with this, but you have to ask them. If trhere is anything you are unclear about or you have a tech support technician who you do not communicate with well, do not be afraid to ask for another technician, after all you are paying for their support just as you are the program.
However; Norton is known for taking up a lot of space on your computer and slows down the performance of a home computer. I have been told that Norton is for heavy duty, big professional systems and is too much of a system for a regular home computer. Not being a computer expert, I can't tell you anymore about Norton than what I know from my own experience. I already told you what you asked about the three programs, now I will tell you what I know from my own experience.
My wife had Nortons on her very first computer, a Windows 98SE. It worked fine for a while, but it wasn't but a few months after she was using it (it was a rebuilt machine and she had never been on a computer before in her life at the time, this is all true.) the machine began to start to have problems. The scans all said things were fine, but it had slowed down considerably, so she had a friend who was what is known affectionatly as a "computer nerd" come and look it over. He told her that the Norton's was a fine program but it was way too big for the amount of space she had on that 98SE and told her it would be best to remove it and download a free program of AVG Anti-Virus from CNET and somehow he finagled to do that for her and sure enough it began to run a lot faster.
Now, what you want to do is up to you, but I can pretty much guarantee you that if you go asking a Norton's representative about their programs being to big for a basic home computer they will tell you that it is all "fal de ra" and they have the best there is in home and small business computer protection. But then, they are out to sell programs, because their agenda is different from yours.
Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

Nortan is a memory hog.

you can get AVG's Free antivirus.. no limited trial.. updates regularly. Keeps my custom pc clean.

Just be smart about what you do and you wont get viruses.. No need to spend a good amount of cash on Nortan's products when a free program does just as good. Dont open up weird emails.. dont look at bad sites.. dont download unknown software.. dont click on ads.. I'm sure you've heard that a billion times.. But most people still ignore it..

I reccomend:
AVG's Free Antivirus
Ad-aware
Spybot
Sygate's Personal Firewall
Windows Defender
Spyware Blaster
CCleaner

the usual things everyone uses..
(Window's default firewall is a Joke.. use Sygate)

I'd stay away from anything by Norton. My past experiences with their products have shown that they drastically slow your system down (they use a lot of resources like memory, CPU etc). Currently I use McAfee Internet Security Suite (which includes a firewall, spamkiller, virus scan etc). I have had no problems whatsoever with the McAfee product.

I'd really recommend using other Antivirus Softwares like AVG/ AVGFree (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1)

But if you're just deciding among those 3 from Norton, I'd probably go with Norton AntiVirus.

Again, there are a lot of alternatives. You could also check out Nod32.(http://www.nod32.com.au/nod32/default.html)

I kicked Norton out as soon as I bought the laptop. Try one of the free ones then pay for their firewalls etc. Not Norton FGS! I use AVG, its free

None of the above. You don't have to pay for this stuff. Just get all the stuff Microsoft offers, including windows defender, and a free and easy antivirus program like http://www.avast.com

Ok heres wat i gotta say.

Withy norton you might as well forget spending any cash. It is a waste. A better combo would be Mcafee from Mcafee.com . It is only $39.99 for a 1 year subscription and it is the BEST.
