Gagne will be the teams closer, but look for Otsuka to still get a fair share of save oppurtunities..
Otsuka will have his role reduced to that of setup man, which is actually a much harder role then many people think.
You need just as solid a pitcher setting up as you do closer... so it's not like your benching Otsuka...

I live in Arlington and hear the reports on the Rangers everyday on the radio. Gagne will take over the closer role, while Otsuka will move to the set up. That is, of course, unless Gagne still isn't 100% or if he goes down again.

Gagne will start as closer. He signed with the Rangers only under the condition that he would be the closer at the start of the year. However, if he struggles, look for Otsuka to step in to take his place. If he excells, the Rangers will looks to trade Otsuka to improve other areas (starting pitching and outfield).

From all media reports here in the metroplex area, Gagne will be the closer while Otsuka will move to the eighth inning. Hope this helps.

Gagne is the closer. But they won't push him, look for the Rangers to limit his opportunities early. A full load will be about 4 innings per week and they won't use him on consecutive days.
It will probably be about a 60/40 split for the first half of the season. But I wouldn't worry about it too much.... you have to be in the lead to need a closer! Go Angels!
