They´re not really Mercedes (have you seen any Merc emblem on them?). They´re much more than a simple Mercedes, they belong to the top fancy category cars like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar or Cadillac.
Mayback is a very old brand (A Hitler owned one or two when they were normal cars). Maybach is now a hybrid brand, a baby product from marriage between Mercedes and Chrysler (Daimler Chrysler). The two versions (57 and 62) are very expensive, only for people who don´t know what to do with all the lots of money they earn. Luis Miguel has one.

Maybach sell cars to people who want to buy Maybach cars. If you are not looking for them you will not see them. If you want to buy a rolls, Mercedes, Bentley or (god forbid) a Lincoln then they do not want to take up your time with cheap advertising. If you have half a million pounds lying about and start searching for quality cars then the name "Maybach" will become familiar to you.

I first heard about the maybach because it was in an issue of Automobile magazine that I subscribe to. I've also been lucky enough to drive one because I work valet parking and Dr. J came in with his... yes Dr J the basketball player. :)

I had never heard of them until about a year ago, when I read in a 'Teen Mag' that Usher owned one, before then I was oblivious to their existence! They're more often spotted in the US, than the UK, but due to their costs, I'm suprised they aren't publicised more in the media.
Although it was in the Metro the other day...

For the same reason why your local Walmart doesn't carry a magazine called "$20 Million+ Mansions" Maybach is irrelevant to the consumer market -- if you can afford it you don't need to be told. Also, you may just not have been paying attention -- there was significant mainstream coverage four or five years ago and since they haven't changed much since there hasn't been that much additional coverage, natch.

They're for the ultra-rich. They don't advertise, and aren't even built unless special ordered, but built to order just as you wish. They use only the finest materials and are hand built to exacting standards of fit and finish, power and function.
