no..........not good for a automatic............will wear out clutch band,s......indifferent................ to a manual Tran,s......but will wear clutch disc,& pressure plate.........not to mension undue stress to your engine! .................use your brake,s.....that,s what there made for.........cheaper to reline brake,s than to rebuild a tran,s ....or change a clutch, ...or rebuild a engine due to increased back lash....wearing piston skirt,s-cylinder bore!

im sure ur taking of a auto transmission so no if u do ur just going to start killing gears and end up needing a new 1 only downshift in a auto if ur going down a hil and then only go to 3, 2, or d deppending on what urs has never put it in 1

Manual transmission, it is what you are supposed to do...down shifting, as in coming to a stop, lets you take advantage of the engines natural "braking" power, saving your brakes...

Automatics, no...you just end up wearing out your transmission, and defeating it's purpose...

It's fine for your transmission unless you don't match RPMs and put undue stress on it, it's the clutch you'll wear out faster. If you're trying to use engine braking, remember that clutches are much more expensive than brake pads.
