well Alan, ill give you my 2 cents worth..Hendrix did invent styles, when its said.."man this guy is gonna put us outta work" by 2 of the biggest guitar players in that era,hmmm..and they admit saying this!(watch vh1 classic and hear them tell the tale)
drugs were a part of the 70s..a big part..the era back then wasnt brainwashed by everyone telling you "drugs are bad"..hell Slash used to play a better show trashed than he did sober..Hendrix didnt fear the feedback from his guitar..alot of band did..instead he tamed it and nutured it and made it part of his sound..feedback was no longer a bad work after he started to do that.Watch Prince and how he plays..o I bring up Prince he says..this guy must be gay right..nope..Prince is a very talented musician whom had several big pop hits in the 80s..with his own sound and using Hendrix style riffs..Clapton was around in the era of Hendrix..Pete Townsend was also..all of these guys were creating and finding a sound that no-one had ever heard before! you want to talk about drugged out sloppy players..well theres Ace Frehley of Kiss..saw him 3 times..what a JOKE!..people think hes a god and and thanks to technical cover-ups it hid it for him for years..Eddie Van is very talented, but with out Hendrix helping invent sounds never heard before..Eddie Van may have just stuck to jazz and classical like his father(thats not a cut by the way)..Hammer on technique was out long before Eddie made it popular..But like Hendrix..Eddie tamed the method to his own..and he became a guitar god for it..and he should of..but what you really have are two different type of guitar players and 2 different era where technology could help introduce a different sound..eddies sound isnt all technology, but he was able to change parts in his guitar amp heads easier than hendrix could
replace the tubes in his.hell the kinks used to cut the paper on their speakers to get a dirtier sound..it was all trying to get a different sound back then.who would i want in my band?...depends on the music type in playing!..
becareful..im sure you ticked alot of hendrix fans off with the comment, but i did the same about Ace Frehley..

Jimi Hendrix is hands down THE best guitar player there has ever been. Ever. Not only has Clapton, Townsend, Page, SRV, John Mayer, J.J. Cale, and George Harrison agreed, he was named #1 on the "100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time" list for Rolling Stone and Guitar World.
He practically invented the psychadelic rock and broad use of the Wah effects. He was also the first musician to add effects post-recording in the studio.

Wrong ! Hendrix is / was one of the best. And unless you lived in that time period, you can't really say...BTW, he was the first person to violate fire codes using a guitar...Heard of Stevie Ray ? These guys are Hendrix wannabes...And from what I've read, Jimi was a nice guy. There was just alot of people who wanted to use him. He turned to drugs because he could'nt handle the pressure."Loser"? Hardly !

Hey,Mr. Music. If Jimi didn't invent anything, Then, who was he copy-catting? There wasn't anybody that played music like his during the 60's. Oh, by the way, what exactly did Van Halen invent?

We gained the accolades primarily because he was a self taught left handed guitarist that played a right handed and strung guitar upside down and backwards.
Try doing that,, and on drugs (as you say loser)
I lived the 60's, great era in history ,,, whats so bad about:
Peace, Sex, Drugs and good ole' Rock n Roll+
three out of four aint bad

I love Jimi Hendrix but no I don't think he was the best guitarist ever Eric Clapton was so much better, Jimis thing was feedback not proficincy on guitar. The best guitarists are the classically trained

Genius is in the moment. It is in what happens now. Anything after that is building on what happened before. Yes, he did play with feedback. He saw it as a possible musical expression and exploited it as a player. Nothing more.

Look man, You can listen to Jimi but you can't hear him. There's a difference man. Just because your listening to him doesn't mean you're hearing him.
