The shoe box idea works really well..

You could use yarn or string for the cell membranes.

I used miniature pickles (Gerkins, I think) as one of the cell structures, as well as dry kidney beans.

If you have to make a model of a plant cell-- use a shoe box.

ok if you are looking for cells in mitosis, onion root cells are great. elodea, a underwater plant is also great. the easiest to get is the potato plant. look under a light microscope at 400X and you'r great
