They get media coverage for being ENTERTAINERS - not political figures. Yet the drugged out immoral high school drop-outs of the left coast seem to think they need to weigh in on our President and that WE CARE what they think.
YOU PRETEND for a living and most of you are dumb as a box of rocks. Just entertain us BUT if you want to make a political statement - buy an ad or write to the Editor like I have to do.

UGLY BETTY star America Ferrera:
In the scripted exchange, Braff asked: “So do you think that you have any traits in common with the country that is your namesake?” Ferrera replied: “I guess I'm a free-spirited person and America's supposedly the 'land of the free,' right?” She then added, to loud applause from the left coast film industry audience: “Or at least we will be in 2008.”

I agree with you 200%. Most of these film stars and celebrities think that they are special when all they can do in life is act in front of a camera and make believe that they are real people. Most of them can hardly read and write. Acting was the only profession they could handle because of their limited intelligence. They have earned millions of dollars which now gives them the right to be liberals and teach Americans what being good to the poor and repressed means. Let them keep their mouths closed and get their kicks from numerous divorces and drug driven parties.

"The drugged out immoral high school drop-outs on the left coast..."

Do you have any idea how much weight your argument loses each time you decide to attach a calloused and erroneous label on people you don't like? They get media coverage because they're entertainers and like it or not, people are interested in entertainers and have been for many, many years. Marlon Brando made headlines standing up for equal rights and for standing against the mistreatment of Native Americans. Jane Fonda was very vocal in her disapproval of the Vietnam War. This is not a new fad you've locked onto here. And the reason they do it and the reason people are interested is because despite what they do and their qualifications or lack thereof, they are people who hold a lot of public interest.

You on the other hand are not a celebrity, you're not well known and if it weren't for Yahoo Answers, you wouldn't have a platform in which to stand and spew out your opinions on a daily basis. You have no qualifications either. You're not a politician, you're not a political analyst, you're not anything other than your average American Conservative with way too much time on her hands and an endless list of opinions that flow like so much diarrhea.

So since you're so in love with your own uninformed opinions that you feel you must infect all of cyberspace with them, maybe you should show much more patience for those celebrities who occasionally make a political statement.

Does life imitate art ? Or the other way around ? Doesn't matter. Fact is, many Americans who are not on television agree with certain members of Hollywood. This is just an example of the "liberal media" myth repackaged. If members of Hollywood didn't make political statements on television, who would? Some faceless person on the street ? Sure, but it wouldn't have the same impact. Might as well put a recognisable face behind the criticism.

I have seen the trend after JFK's death of people bashing the office of the President. Some of these folks have an agenda some just like to exercise their freedom of speech rights. But as a patriotic American, I feel many young men and women throughout our history gave their lives in war to ensure our very right of freedom of speech. Let us not turn our back on their sacrifice. Like it or not this right will continue to keep us in liberty. The day we start dictating what can be said and by whom will be the day we will be like lemmings , The Nazi party in Germany took this approach and eventually murdered millions and so bent on military action to back up what they believed to be right they caused suffering and grief throughout the world.
If the German people had had the freedom (like we do today in this country to speak their minds freely without reprisal,)
well then maybe Hitler would have been taken down sooner. Thank god we don't have to worry about Gestapo or plain old citizens turning one another in for voicing their oppinions that may be contrary to those in power.
Our President is a strong individual He can take the criticism. History will judge him and his cabinet for his actions or lack of. As well as those that support or oppose him .
I say be proud of our Government, as it is the best in the world for freedom to choose and for speech. These rights give us each individually the power to vote whomever in or out that we choose. Change is always a good thing as it tends to create balance and new ideas. Lets Embrace our freedom as a great people and stop trying to make everyone think like us and stop caring about verbal criticism. Better that we focus our concern on the total health of our country , in other words let us think about keeping America a strong example for the entire world to emulate, not hate. Children are easily influenced by many things , adults are far more cynical and stuborn. If we all keep an ear and mind open for the greater good of our home (America) which I believe means being good nieghbors to each other and to show respect for one another. Maybe we can be the great country that we now voice to the rest of world, that we say we are.
In closing name calling and acusations of some groups merely because of their chosen profession, by lumping them all together as the writer above implies:: and I qoute her "Yet the drugged out immoral high school drop outs " to win over others to her cause is a pretty ignorant statement and has the reverse effect, at least in my personal oppinion.
Not knowing her personaly myself I could call her names and claim the same about her but because of my upbringing and ecucation I could never do so.
Her rhetoric speaks out for itself and rings very much like The Nazi propoganda machine used against their political enemys of their time. I say to her read and learn from history and let us never repeat it.

I also dont understand why its a big announcement when celebs announce who they're voting for. As if a face for tv makes them any smarter. Alot of the ads are on the site below.

Sure they have a right to say what they think. They're Americans and they have a vested interest in the country in which they live.

If talking heads like Limbaugh can try to effect public opinion, then I'm just fine with Ugly Betty doing the same.

Why do Republicans always want people to shut-up?

Like it or not, the First Amendment applies to ALL Americans, including celebrities. Naturally, they're going to use their prominence to draw attention to their favorite issues and causes, much in the same way Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sonny Bono did when they ran for public office.

By the way, why does it seem that most celebs who run for office are Republicans?

I guess being an actor automatically classifies someone as an idiot right?

I guess all they are capable of doing is acting.

Politicians are actors, same thing.

I have some questions for you.

Why do you constantly worship G.W. Bush? Why do you think it is horrible to critisize him in any way? Why do you think everyone has to think like you do?

It's a benefit of being famous. People want to be like them in some way so they listen to them when they make political statements. That sells newspapers and gets you to watch TV.
Which is why it gets coverage.

Unfortunately, most Hollywood actors are better informed on key issues than Bush will ever be.
