it is possible to fish the Nile and i belive the main fish you will catch are Nile perch, however you will not be able to fish from the cruise liner. you will need to find someone who will be prepared to take you out in their boat and maybe lend you equipement. Most fishing i have seen in the nile is done with a net and not a rod. but any felucca(small sailing boat) will almost certainly negotiate to take you fishing. Everything is for sale you simply have to negotiate the price. That includes the taxi to hurghada. There are many taxis in luxor and i can reccomend you a driver if you like, just ask. Always arrange everything when you get there, If you are reccomended anything by an egyptian he will expect a cut from the driver on what you pay. So remember that whatever you pay will be hiked up to add his commission. that aslo goes for a fellucca. so i would suggest you ask on board your cruise liner for the approximate fair price of a taxi to hurghada you will have to travel in a police escroted convoy at a specific time of the day. your tour guide will be very helpful ( they always are) but i have never needed a permit to go to hurghada Then choose your driver, either by the state of the car or which ever way you choose. then explain what you want and decide on the price, do the same for the felucca.
io cannot guide you as to a fair price i am afraid becuase i usually pay over the odds and also tend to hire then for a full week. as i know they are mostly very poor. But to give you an example i usually pay about £12 for a taxi for about 3 hours work on the west bank. and about £10 for a couple oif hours on the boat tipping is also expected. have fun.

Why do you need a taxi? There are buses that go from Luxor to Hurghada for 10 USD per person. Have your hotel in Luxor book you tickets or arrange the trip. It takes about 6 hours.

Taxi would only be worth it if you are four or five people with lots of luggage and you want to leave at a time where there is no bus. Expect to pay around 50 USD for car, driver and fuel. Make sure you get a Mercedes, or else do not bother.

if you are taking the smaller boats such as the sandal boat or dahabia ,you can fish for Nile perch, no fishing on the large cruisers. A taxi from Luxor to Hurgada is about 450 le
not bad if its shared, the coasters are from 45 le but a 4-5 hour trip 3 in a taxi, the buses stop and start for other pick ups you can also go on the day trip buses back to Hurgada in the convoy 3 hours for about 85le. no need to book but make sure you have a hotel in hurgada or the touts will rip you off by getting you in one of the cheap hotels to get there commsion

I did a felucca trip on the Nile in October from Aswan to Luxor, it was such a brilliant experience. Some people on my trip put lines in the water, but only caught really small fish which they threw back in. They were probably only about 15cm long. Re: taxi, as others have said wait til you are there and make sure you know the price before you get in. They will definitely try and rip you off!!

Yes, you can fish, but you're more likely to catch typhoid than anything edible! The Nile is a filthy river!

You'll need a permit to go from Luxor to Hurghada. Your tour rep should be able to help you.

you can catch Nile perch, tasty fish but to many bones for me.
no fishing off the cruisers, but if you got yer takle with you fish when the boat is docked, I doubt if any one will complain unless you are on the top cabins and someone s got the balcony door open and your maggot goes somewhere it shouldnt,
you got the right answer from another person on the taxies.
if you are in the area call in for a meal if you catch some fish chef will only be to pleased to cook them for you, best of luck withyour fishing. Tony

Re taxi wait until you are there. Negotiate the price they normally ask 4 times the amount. IE if they ask for 20 pounds the real fair is more likely to be 5 pounds

well, you can fish in the allowed areas for fishing,as for the Taxi you may wait till you go there but its hella far so you might think about a plan so just leave it till you go there and you will have more than one option
Have a nice vacation
