By re-invent do you mean lie? After years of American History classes I was disappointed by how many lies and sins of omission I had suffered through in class. Its not necessary, its not desirable but apparently its profitable to lie about historical figures, whether good, bad or indifferent if it makes your side look better.

That's how heroes become heroes! It is always the accounts told of them that become inflated into legend. Sadly, the images bear little in common with the actual hero.

If they want them to be heros then yeah. We don't like regular people as heros. We aren't used to it and they refuse to let us think those people were regular people.
