the left over cord will fall off within 1-3 weeks. I have 4 kids so it varies. When they cut the cord, the left over stump dries up and an falls off. Clean it well with water or alcohol. It doesnt matter which, as long as it is kept clean. Good luck to you...

The umbilical cord stump that is left over after the baby is born will dry up and fall off anywhere from 1-2 weeks. You should only used alcohol on it until it falls off. The alcohol keeps it clean from germs and also has a drying effect and will help it dry out. Don't try to pull on it. It will come off on it's own. I would use a cotton q-tip and alcohol with each diaper change. All of my children's stumps fell off between 7-10 days.

The umbelical cord will eventually fall off on its own. Just make sure that the are around it isn't red or has anything seeping from that area, which can be a sign of infection. Keep the area dry and clean. If it gets dirty, use rubbing alcohol. Just be patient. Some babies take longer to lose theirs. My first born's came off bit by bit.

The cord is cut at birth, and then the stump is clamped. The clamp is removed in the hospital, but your baby will have a stump for a while. The time varies; one of my children lost her stump at four days, but my fourth child kept his for 2 1/2 weeks. Just care for it according to your doctor's instructions, and everything will be okay!

yes the stump will fall off on it's own, this could take 1-4 weeks. My second one took a bit longer, but it came off. Most doctors recommend cleaning it at every diaper change with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. I know everyone else has already said this, but I wanted to add a couple things they left out. Rubbing alcohol is recommended because it will kill off germs and bactira as well as help dry the stub out. Second, your baby will cry. Not because they're hurt, it doesn't hurt them, but it is cold, and probably shocks them a bit. It will fall off soon and you should continue to clean it for the first couple days. Then you'll have a brand new belly button to blow raspberries on!

The umbilical cord falls off in a few weeks normally. I got a cheap Walgreens bottle of alcohol and cotton balls and cleaned my daughters every time she needed her diaper changed, and hers fell off at 16 days old.

They fall off anywhere from 5 days to 5 weeks. The hospital or your baby's pediatrician will give you instructions on how to take care of it.

Usually there is a small portion left on that falls off within the first week, usually the first 2 - 3 days. My son's fell off in two days; my daughter's fell off before we left the hospital. If its not gone in a week, a call to the pediatrician is probably appropriate.
