The PS3 is basically an over-hyped, over-priced Blu-ray player. Most of the games it plays look a lot better on the Xbox 360 which was released a year ago. There's no justification for the PS3's astronomical price when a 360 costs half what it costs and performs better. There's a reason why PS3s are giving away free Blu-ray movies while the Wii has sold over 3 times as many systems so far. On the graphics side and sound side, there is no contest and the PS3 wins. But on the fun side, the Wii's games are head and shoulders more fun to play, they're more addictive and you can atleast get 480p resolution with Dolby sound, which is still good. I know some people who were rich enough to buy all 3 of the major systems and they choose to play the Wii all the time over the other 2. Just play WarioWare or Wii Sports with 3 other friends, and you'll be hooked.

Get him the PS3 because the PS3 will have more games to his liking, but get him the Wii if you want to play with him.

You do not need a HD TV for the PS3. It looks good on a regular TV, but it will look better on a HD TV. The same thing can be said for all consoles, even the Wii.

There's about a 5% chance that the PS3 will break. All those stories about the PS3 breaking are made up by a bunch of 360 and Wii fanboys to get people to not buy a PS3. I've had the PS3 since launch, and it's still working.

If you want to talk about things breaking, what about the TV? Would you rather have a PS3 break on you, where you can still return it to get it fix, or have the Wii-mote fly out of your hand and break the TV? Can't get the TV fixed because its your fault.

Well...ask yourself these questions:

1.) Is my Dad really interested in video games?
2.) Does my Dad like the old games?
3.) Do I wanna have fun with my Dad?

If you said yes to all those, Wii would be a better choice. Personally, I'd choose Wii-an inexpensive console that really does make you more active while playing games...if you wanna be active. The fact that you can download games from past Nintendo consoles is also nice. And the other features, like surfing the web, make for a more comfortable experience. It's also an awesome party machine with Wii Sports. And as for adult play...Manhunt 2 and The Godfather: Blackhand Edition might be some adult oriented games that Dad might be interested.

But again, that is your choice! :)

I certainly have the two and mutually as technique video games and scuffling with video games are extra effective on the PS3 -- however the Wii is lots extra relaxing and a super subject to bust out at events. i'm lots happier i offered a Wii than the PS3.

Get the one that appeals to him/you more, or whichever you think would appeal to him more if it's a gift. The PS3 is godawfully expensive, and it's only saving grace is it's Blu-Ray player. (Which isn't that impressive either. OOOHH HD? Who cares?) The Wii is geared towards all ages. Everyone who isn't a fanboy or an idiot loves it. Here's an article that may help your decision. http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/wii-reitirement-home-wiitirement-home/
