Protostomes that have coeloms include mollusks - slugs and squids, annelids - earthworms, arthropods - crabs and insects. Other protostomes like sponges (porifera) and cnidarians (jelly fish), flatworms (platyhelminthes) DONT have coeloms, while roundworms have pseudocoeloms.

Coelomate deuterostomes include the phylums echinoderm (starfish, sea cucumbers), and chordata (fish, mammals).

Protostomes are different from deuterostomes because during cleavage they undergo spiral cleavage, while deuterostomes undergo radial cleavage. Also, during gastrulation, the invagination of the blastopore forms the moth rahter than anus in protostomes. Furthermore, the coelom thats formed in protostomes is derived from blocks of solid mesoderm, while in deuterostomes, the coelom is formed by mesoderm pockets that pinch off the gut to form a coelom.

Amniotic eggs were important because their shells minimized water loss. The amniotica eggs allowed the animals to reproduce in a wide variety of habitats (including terestrial habitats). This allowed the tetrapods to reproduce on land.
