Three good reasons to do this:

1. The college courses on your transcripts may help you when it comes to applying to college.

2. Some of the credits may be transferrable to the college you choose to attend. If so, that could help reduct the cost of college. I once read about a family with limited funds and lots of children to get through college. What they did was to encourage everyone to take as many AP courses or actual college courses as possible while in high school. They were all able to skip the first year of college, making the whole thing more affordable for that family.

3. You may develop a better idea of what you want to study later.

The only thing I suggest is that you track down someone at your school or at the college who really knows about this, so you have all the specific pros and cons before you go.

The first two posters are wrong, AP classes are not college classes. Unless you're a high school graduate you can not take college classes, unless your high school has a dual enrollment program (where you take half your classes at high school, and spend the other half a day taking college classes) in cooperation with your local community college. Check with your guidance counselor at school to see if they have any sort of thing.

Yes. If you have the opportunity... do it! You have no idea how much you'll appreciate it once you start college. You'll have a few basic courses out of the way and you can focus more on what you really are interested in. You'll save yourself alot of time. It's always better to get ahead. Especially if they're free courses.
Good Luck!

Go for it!!! This is a great program.

The experience will help prepare you for college. You will be better prepared as a freshman. You will not feel like a "newbie" out of place at a college when you pursue your undergraduate degree.

In addition, the experience will give you an advantage for scholarships and college admissions. Do not let an opportunity like this pass.

Good Luck!!!

By all means. My oldest daughter had 23 dual credit hours and her university accepted all of them. Much cheaper and when you get to the university you can begin taking higher level classes.

only if it's a decent college. if it's a community college or something lower than what you plan on going into for college- don't do it, they wont value the courses and won't give you credit b/c they know those classes are too easy for their standards
