I'm not talking about the tourists.

I guess it just depends on your experience. But my husband and I have been going to Vegas now for the past 10 years, at least 2-3 times. And we have had nothing but good experiences. We talk to people whereever we go, whether it's a dealer, a bar tender, a cleaning maid, or even in the local grocery store. And we have never once been treated poorly. Infact, we have had quite the opposite reaction. We have been just simply amazed at the courteous way the people have treated us. We have always been treated with smiles, and real nice personalities.
Infact, we love it so much that we are selling our home this summer and moving there.
We hate where we live, and one of the reasons if for what you just stated. People where we live are so rude, judgemental and so busy thinking how much better they are than you, that they don't see that they look stupid being such asses. Plus, we like the weather better and the job opportunities are 1000 times better.
But, back to your question. It must have been just a bad day for that person. Or something like that. But, again, in general, we have never found the people of Vegas to be anything other than polite and helpful and very nice.
So again, I guess it just depends on your experience and what you are used to.

Wow, if you ask me, this is a rude question. I have lived here all of my life, have worked in a Casino for the last 10 years, and am a 3rd generation in this town. I have run into alot more rude tourists than locals. This is a town where most people have moved here from other places, so when you run into rude people here, its most likely someone from somewhere else. But, on behalf of most Vegans, we are only rude because somebody have put us in that mood.

If we pass each other in a casino, I am probably working and on my way somewhere, so don't expect me to make eye contact, smile, or ask you how you are doing. I am blind to flashy lights, the din of slot machines, and the endless sea of tourists. It's nothing personal, it's just how I get by. Not rude, just apathetic.

The real question is what were you doing when someone did something to you that you consider rude?

What did you say or do to make them rude? People who work in the tourist areas of Las Vegas (i.e. casinos, restaurants, etc.) tend to be THE friendliest and most helpful people in the city. They're not there because they HAVE to be, they're there because they WANT to.

I wasn't aware that people in Vegas were rude, I'd have to disagree w/you. If you mean the service oriented employees, I would imagine that they would be extremely attentive for they depend on tourism and tips for their livehood.

Rudeness is growing everywhere b/c it is socially acceptable not to care about anyone else. In fact, its encouraged! Just watch any evening TV program, news station or talk-show!

Please don't generalize about entire groups of people. Stereotypes do absolutely nothing to improve society.

From a VERY FRIENDLY lifetime New Yorker! We're only rude to and prejudiced against ignorant people.

Because this city is based around facelessness and detachment from people. Houses all have big walls around them. Nobody walks to get from place to place, preferring cars and road rage instead.

Also, there's a lot of people from various cultures here. New Yorkers, Filipinos and Mexicans are a few examples. These groups seem to be very insular and disinterested in being friendly to those outside of their clique. The New Yorkers actually don't seem to be friendly to anyone, come to think of it.
