I know the baby bunnies should be seperated from the mother at eight weeks, but when should I take the nest box out of the cage? There is the cage, the nest box, the mother, and the 5 babies in the nest box. They are almost 3 weeks old! Mini rex, thanx!

The HRS has excellent info on caring for kittens (baby rabbits) here: http://www.rabbit.org/care/babies.html

In case it doesn't answer your question enough, one of my friends who bred min-rexes (I got my own bunny from her) removed the nest box when the kits started moving around on their own (with their eyes open, fur grown, etc.) 3 weeks is still young, so keep the nest box for now, I'm sure that you will know when the time to remove it is right.
I would also suggest that you spay the mother and spay/neuter the babies when they are old enough.

And if none of this has helped you, or given you the answer you were looking for, I'm sure that if you just called your vet, they would be able to provide you with more detailed information.

We are actually fostering a mother rabbit and her babies right now for our local humane society. We were told that when the babies are jumping in and out of the box on their own, we could remove the nesting box from the cage. We were also told to be sure to handle them plenty in front of the mother to help socialize them starting at around 2-3 weeks of age. I can't believe how fast the babies are growing. Thank god my son doesn't grow that fast!

6 to eight weeks is good especially if it is cold...they need to be kept warm just a little longer...also if you do it too soon then the mom might stop doing the other thing they need: her nursing them. So be patient and don't stir things up too much. IF you need to clean the hutch then just clean half today and the other half in two days...the nesting material includes the moms underbelly fur and the babies need that. Also try your best not to touch things with your hands...your smell is not okay on her babies. Remember that's their world not yours and respect will help keep them alive...if the mom thinks you are an introuder she may kill the babies.

at this age their eyes are huge open and that they are getting their little ft below them and that they are trying them out. they're going to alter into fairly cellular approximately now. The hypothermia possibility (until eventually that's amazingly chilly) has exceeded. they're at a length besides the incontrovertible fact that that some could be waiting to slot interior the direction of the cage bars so which you do could desire to have some variety of barrier. evaluate too giving mom a harm from them some hours an afternoon to get her rigidity some.
