I would really like to know if the salary is for a small private university if you know that information. Please post your source because I would especially like to hear from real professors. Thanks!!!

Salaries vary according to the following factors:

State v. private
Ranking of college in your field
The college's endowment
Urban v. rural (tied to cost of living)
Coast v. inland (tied to cost of living)
Your rank (assistant, associate, full)
Tenure-track v. visiting

Over time, the amount of grants that professor brings in will affect salary as well.

The lowest salaries for beginning tenure-track assistant professors would be at rural inland or southern low-ranked (third tier) private liberal arts colleges. That would be about 40-50K..

The highest salaries for beginning tenure-track assistant professors would be at top-tier private universities on a coast, in an urban setting. That would be about 60-70K.

Flagship public universities (U Mich, Ohio State, UT Austin, etc.) would offer salaries in the middle, but closer to the higher end than to the lower end.

Visiting (non-tenure-track) would be about 10K lower in each case.

Full professors would earn about 20K more in each case.

It depends on what state you're in and what college you're talking about and how long the professor has been teaching at the school. Does he have tenure? The amounts vary widely but I would say btw 50k - 60k in the south or midwest. 65k - 75k in the Northeast. West coast who knows? They're crazy out there.

That would depend on where you teach. If you're at a private university such as Duke probably 80k to 110k. If you're at a 4 year public college you can expect around 45k to 70k. This depending on the area of the country you're located.
