I recently watched this show on BravoTV called "Real Housewives of Orange County". Can someone tell me why black women do not have a reality show that showcase their success?
Why are we continuing to see non minority women pop up when it comes to beauty and riches?

Black women have better things to do than show the world how moronic and superficial they are.

I honestly feel it is because we really don't want our business aired on television. Most successful Black women air their success in moderation, like Oprah Winfrey, Ruby Dee Davis, and famous black women celebrities. The one reality show that I feel portrays a black woman in a negative way is "I Love New York". I can't think of anything positive about that. But the closest show that I can think of that portrays black women in a positive way is "Girlfriends" but that is not a reality show. There might be one day, I just hope it doesn't turn into something stupid, degrading, and will set us back as black women. I am actually waiting for the whole reality show - ERA to disappear anyway, so it might happen but just in case it doesn't. We as black women have enough to be proud of. I know that doesn't help. lol.

I absolutely agree. When we black women actually do show up on tv, we're portrayed as being loud, aggressive , controlling and very over-the-top. Yes, there are some black women who are like that, but not all of us are, but sadly, that's the message that's being sent to society. I mean, come on, look at the new Flavor of Love spinoff, " I love New York." New York is absolutely wild and is giving us black women a bad rep. Despite all that, you can still look at people like Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks with a smile. They're black and proud and help send a positive message to society. It's time we all stood up and banned these stereo-types. I remember this one time I was talking to some white guy and I asked him how he's perceive me if he just saw me in the streets and never spoke to me and you know what he said? He said he's probably be scared of me because I'm black. That hurt like B I T C H, because I know that he's putting me into the mould of the unpleasant blacks in the media and that he just happened to cross paths with in life. It's terrible, because we're not all like that. Black women are generally catagorized as rude and uneducated, but let me tell you something, I'm smart as hell and probably one of the nicest, easy to relate to people you'll ever meet. People think that all black girls will grow up to be impoverished, unsuccessful single mothers, but that's just not the case. I have a whole life list of things I NEED to accomplish before I pass. It's time we all stood up ( not only blacks, but all races) and gave the world a more positive perception of blacks and other minority races!

You may think that show portrays them in a negative manner. Personally I've never seen it, didn't know it existed. But don't forget, the women that participate in it aren't forced to, they choose to.

I'm sorry but it doesn't matter how many reality shows revolve around black women, you're probably going to find fault with it in one way or another.
