It can be. Just make sure the seller has plenty of positive feedback. Also refer to:

Yes, It is very safe to buy off EBAY. I have been a buyer and a seller for about 3 years now and have had no problem. Just like the others have stated. Check the person's feedback. It is helpful to set up a paypal account to help pay for your purchases that you have won. NEVER offer (or let a seller offer to sell you an item) to buy or pay for something off EBAY without being the winner. It's against EBAYS rules. You won't be protected if something goes wrong. Also, be very careful of what is called "phishing" emails. EBAY will never email you asking for you to give out your password or other private information. Anything EBAY sends you via email will also be in your "email Message" box in your "my ebay" on your account. Happy EBAYING!

Nothing is ever 100% safe, but having been dealing (both buying and selling) on eBay for a few years I have never had any problem. If you are concerned about the product you are purchasing, alway check the feeback and if there is any negative find out what it is. BTW my feeback rating is 100% for over 2 years. Most sellers take pride in their products. EBay does not ever disclose credit card numbers, and is safest once you sign up with PayPal.

I buy practically everything off of eBay for the past 11 years, including my engagement ring! I also sell items as well!

Make sure you check their feedback rating - don't just check the feedback number, but the percentage of positives to negatives. If the sellers feedback percentage is under 95%, I will not buy from them.

If you are purchasing a designer item, make sure it comes with a guarantee. Do a little homework on what to look for when it comes to that specific item and be sure the seller has a 100% guarantee!

eBay can be soooo great, just make sure you take these precautions.

Good luck and have fun!

eBay is absolutely safe. But remember, eBay is composed of individual sellers. Only buy from someone with long experience selling on eBay, and with a lot of good feedback. That means they're reliable and dependable. Only buy from someone who accepts PayPal. That protects you and the seller. Only bid as much as you want and can afford to pay, for the item you want. If you don't get that one, there will always be another one. Be fair and honest with the seller, and they'll treat you the same way.

I buy all kinds of things on Ebay all of the time. I wll not buy from a seller unless they have at least 99% rating AND they use Paypal. Make sure you read all of the fine print on a listing.

Not only safe you can save tons of cash. Make sure you look at the person's feedback. That's the number by their name. It's also fun !
Just started selling myself and I"m not exactly doing it to make money(aothought it's nice) but it's really fun seeing who wants the stuff collecting dust that I can make a few bucks on....

For the most part it is. I've never had any problems, and I've used e-bay for 5+ years.

If your nervous don't buy from anyone with a rating less than 20 or 50.
