Hey, I have a 98' chevy blazer LT. it was my fathers but i have recentyl aquired it. Jus for info purposes, it is a vortec v6 4.3 liter. 190hp@4400 (stock that is)(o an its automatic also). now i jus went out to a empty street and timed my 0-60 time, i clocked it at 9 seconds. Is that a bad time? I realize that its an older SUV, and i was jus wondering how it compares to some of the newer type cars. And what are (if any) cheap any non-major things i can do to my car to improve it time. thanks.

if you got nine seconds out of a stock 98 blazer your timing was way off, possibly the distance you ran was not a quarter mile. some people work on their cars for years to make it hit 9 seconds. to answer your question there are two different 4.3. liter engine gm produces. going off the 8th digit in your Vin number it will be a "w" or an "x". if it is an x motor you got yourself a keeper, they are very torquey and can be made fairly fast, keep in mind you are still governed at 96 miles an hour. a w motor on the other hand is not one you want to lay a bunch of aftermarket parts on, they are dependable but that's about it, they get the job done serving in a 4x4. both these engines share the same aftermarket parts but i would only tune the x. you can end up with about 310hp out of the 4.3 if you remain naturally aspirated. if you put twin turbos on it you will see upwards of 500hp, pretty crazy huh. i hope i answered your question and i wish you the best on your project.

the only reason a blazer does not get good gasoline milage is that if the gasoline injector heads and gasoline traces are actually not maintained. i exploit heet and get super milage. And the explorer replace into certainly made by skill of ford to compete with the Chevy blazer and GMC jimmy returned whilst the fashions the place comparable. and there's a super reason they call it a ford exploder, the older fashions have been improper using hasty production and damaging making plans, so the extra moderen fashions are slightly extra effective. however the older fashions if Chevy blazer are good and final for dam close to ever in case you guard them appropriate that's user-friendly.

Thats not bad for that vehicle, I had a 98, 2 door.... I put on a Cold air intake, flowmaster 40 muffler and high flow cat converter..... my blazer was pretty quick, until the garbage 4L60E transmission blew up.... typical Chevy.....

9 seconds is decent, it took lifters and 120 extra hp to make my k1500 to do that. I wouldn't try to make it go faster (first time I've ever said that), you'll kill your gas milage and it's an SUV, so you'll increase your already high rollover risk (blazers are narrow and tall, don't try any sportscar stuff in that SOB). Plus, that trans can probably only handle 250-300hp max.

0 to 60 in 9 second,s........not bad at all...............why would you want to trade reliability for more speed?.......because that,s what you would be doing if you start adding any performance item,s.
