I'm just looking to get out to the west coast for a while -- a couple of weeks or maybe a couple of months. What's the best way to find possible roommates?

The campus hitchhiker boards at Berkeley. This board does
range from freaks to tons of real people. Being careful not to
send data on times, places, or habits, keep a discreet talk to
the potentials thru the school scholarship office. This office is
staffed versus some teen hangouts, and clubs with public access. Also some clubs like gyms may have good publication.
Realize that your safety is protected just as much as theirs when you need information, telephones must be referenced and I
would suggest the scholarship people have the good record.
Psychologists, dee jays, maybe local writers have reference and get this duty for local students and youth business people.
I went to florida like this and paid only 60 dollars a week, just
basic costs for 5 weeks, I just needed to visit some relatives.
The people were local subway sandwich shoppe employees.
The food was the attraction, I read it in an online campus paper.

I would post on craigslist.com on what your intentions are Also, try to stay in Berkeley, Emeryville, or somewhere on the penisula, it would be a lot cheaper than staying in the city itself. Transporation is fast and cheap enough to stay anywhere within the Bay Area, without missing out on anything, while still being able to afford it.
