My teenager's room is a disater area. I don't get it. Even when I was her age..I was a neat freaky. I don't clean up after her because she needs to learn how to respect herself, her belongings and her space. She will eventually start carring especially when the boys and girlfriends start coming over.
She has dishes, trash, dirty laundry..and its funny because we watch her like a hawk..because no dishes are allowed in her room and without fail..they pile up and I loose half my kitchen in her room.
Oh well. college...college...college..college...college...dorm room....dorm room..dorm room...I'm chanting. HE HE

Chances are that your daughter just likes her room to look lived in. Well, that and a combination of forgetfulness and just plain not feeling like bringing down her cups :P I am 17 and female, and I can fully sympothize with both you and your daughter. Up until about a week ago, my room was a complete disaster zone -- you couldn't even see the floor! Maybe try striking up some sort of bargain with her... My incentive for actually cleaning my room was I've had a desk, a nightstand, and 2 containers of paint sitting in the garage for about a year now. My dad told me that if I cleaned my room we'd build the furniture, install shelves, paint my room, and get my computer upstairs. Obviously it doesn't have to be as drastic as that, though. Maybe just offer that if she keeps her room clean for a certain period of time (however long you feel is necessary) you'll get her a coffee machine for her room or something like that.

I have no teenagers but if I did I would stay out of their room but insist they bring the dirty cup down before they take a clean one back up, my niece is as bad as your daughter, how do they even get into their rooms with the stuff they hide in them.

mmm, I used to be a teenager with a messy room
I'd generally clean it up once a week. If it got too messy, I didn't have anything to wear!
My mom used to come in when I was at school with a big black garbage bag and literally sweep everything into it that was on the floor and throw it away.
No second chances. :'(
ha. It kinda grossed me out to have a plate sitting in my room for more than a day... I had this fear of germs crawling all over me when I slept.

It's the same here, my daughters bedroom is a tip, but she has to share with her brother so he's to blame too. My eldest son is managing to keep it tidy, cos he brings the gf back

my son is only 4 years old, but already he is more than capable of making his room look like there's been an explosion in Toys R Us. lol i dread to think what it'll be like when he's a teenager.... personally, i think i'll just let him get on with it. when i was a kid my mother was always going into my room, reading my diary, and basically either making fun at me or yelling at me over stuff.... i really don't want to turn out like that ! although i can understand u getting peed off if half of your crockery is migrating to her room - only to return with welded on tea/coffee/juice stains, and if u are really lucky, there'll be some interesting mould growing in them too !

My son's room is in a horrible mess. I refuse to ever go in there. On the rare occassions he cleans it, he needs like 6 garbage bags to clear it out.

I am so glad, those days are behind me....The funny thing is, now that he's 35, with a family of his own, he's become a tidy person...Go figure!
