Mixture of 25% petrol to diesel will be OK. In winter trucks ofter mix 25% petrol into diesel to stop the diesel waxing. Just keep the revs down and fill with petrol when the tank is part empty.
PS ... if you mixed diesel into a petrol engine then you would have big problems! Petrol into diesel wont give you any headache.

Naw its ok now just keep filling it up and let the diesel clean out the engine.
Dont listen to these people giving you horror stories, i used to put a couple of quids worth of petrol on top of the diesel in my diesel car years ago it gave better performance and helped clean out the pipes but you cant do the same with a petrol car.

Putting gasoline in a diesel car can have very a bad effect on a diesel engines performance. Gasoline requires a spark to combust properly, this is why you have poor power. You can try topping off the tank with diesel fuel and hopefully burn off the gas, however, you may want to consider draining the fuel tank and topping it off with fresh diesel fuel. Good luck.

Sounds like you've been lucky. It would appear that the small amount of petrol you put in has now been flushed through, although keep an eye on things for a few miles.
Normally if you put a substantial amount of petrol in a diesel car the tank needs emptying and flushing by a garage.....like I said I think you've probably been lucky.

You will definately need to drain your tank . If you keep running petrol through your diesel pump it will wreck it as the pump needs the lubricating properties of diesel to work. draining the tank is far cheaper than having to fork out for a new diesel pump.

too late to drain tank
any damage would have been done by now
drive gently while you still have some contamination from the petrol and refil at about half a tank then try to run fuel near empty after that
with petrol in the tank you will always risk damage to engine if driven hard and also to the fuel pump which is very expensive to replace

The petrol is mostly floating on top of the diesel, so when you get low again, you'll be sucking up petrol which can wreck your engine. Drain the tank.

FROM A MECHANIC!!
you just need to keep topping up the tank with deisel. the brain in the fuel system detected contaminated fuel, this is why you were limited to 40mph - it went into safe mode. should be totally corrected within 2-3 tank fulls. good luck

Fill the tank up with diesel.
It will break down the petrol & dilute it with the diesel.
