....Little Britain, Catherine Tate or the Friday Night Project? I love comedy of all types, but the current popular crop leaves me cold, yet Top Gear never fails to have me pausing my Sky + for several minutes while I recompose myself and wipe the tears from my eyes so I can start watching again. I'm betting I'm not alone....

I agree, Top Gear is one programme you love to hate. It has me in stitches every week and the one in Florida should go down on record as one of the funniest hours of TV the BBC has shown. Ever. I do think that British comedy especially has gone down the pan so to speak. The Vicar of Dibley was on UKGold earlier and is still as funny now as when it was first shown all those years ago, and I am sure will always be along with Only Fools... and all the other classics. I bet whatever Russell Brand and co are doing now will be forgotten by Christmas. Little Britain and The Catherine Tate show both fell into the same trap, they got hugely popular very quickly and began to rest on their laurels and people got bored.

did you not just watch 'the applicant'? it was very refreshing to see some new comedy that combines parody with opera - it was accessible without being made to appeal to the lowest common denominator and it was on bbc2.

bbc2 seem to be trialing their new comedy on bbc3 at the moment.

agree with what you're saying about the current crop examples, they're ok but rely on the same jokes (or type of) repeated.

Aaah yes - didn't you just love the tractor on the bridge and the blowing up of the field this week. I'll never hear the words 'we plough the fields and scatter' in the same light!.

And the corner shop, in a village, parking a 20ft tractor outside - fantastic! and the lambo and.... oh.... I've wet myself again!

I have given up watching the others but try never to miss TG. Clarkson getting some of what he loves to dish out is always sweet.

Top Gear is the BBC at its best.
I was wetting myself laughing with tonight's tractor episode.
And I'll never forget the time they went caravanning.
