I would tend to agree with you but the greatest Bond aficionado that I know, my dad, said Daniel Craig was phenomenal and he is hard to impress. They can go after Adrian Paul to get back to the "future" Bond as it were.
Daniel Craig represents Bond prior to him becoming 007- the Bond we know and love.
Casino Royale was the first in the Bond Books. So Bond evolved from being rough around the edges to being suave and debonair as the previous Bonds who portrayed him
