Is there a way that i can boot up from a hard drive that is connected to the motherboard as the second ide. Normally motherboards have a connection to a hard drive and a connection to a cd-rom drive, i would like to set up the other hard drive and put it where the cdrom is. Can this be done?

Yes. You will simply need to go into the boot options found in your Bios and set the primary boot device to secondary IDE. The bios is the initial screen you see when you turn on your pc, and can usually be entered by hitting F1 or Delete when you see the screen.
