Yes, I agree. But, the way they do things on "American Idol" is not at all the way things are done in professional circles, as it relates to the judging of talent. In a recognized music program, such as Royal Conservatory of Music, the participants are always treated with courtesy and their talent evaluated fairly by qualified judges along the lines of certain criteria. Criticism is given in a respectful manner. "American Idol", on the other hand, is just a show on T.V., calculated to make people watch it for whatever entertainment value it has; it's a lot like the WWF wrestling matches in that way. It is hard to tell how much of it is "staged", and how much is real. It is organized in such a manner that it will appeal to the emotions of the audience in a wide spectrum of society. The repetitive nature of the way the show progresses, with the usual emotional build-up, reminds one of a circus act or a political election. The end result is a winner: then a huge investment of money which will launch the winner as a musical success, the marketing of the product, and reaping a big profit. It's a cold and cruel business, and they're counting on us to keep watching and supporting it by playing on our emotions.

Only a little. To have gotten to the final rounds, the contestants must not be embarrassingly bad singers, even at their worst. They are not "losers" at all. Having them sing again is just letting them say goodbye in a nice way.

Yes it is sadistic isn't it.They have just been told that their performance got them voted out so to compound the cruelty they have to sing it again! I feel really bad for them when their voices are shaking and you just know they want to cry.

I agree - then sometimes that performance is better than the one that got them voted off - so as to make America feel like they made a mistake.

Yeah. You'd think they'd let them sing another song of their chosing.I think that would make both them and us less embarrassed. I feel so bad for them.
