I seem to hear things differently depending on who's saying it. Whereas news reporters and statesmen pronounce "ee-ron" & "ee-rock" respectively, the ordinary populace around my area (Suburban New York) pronounce them "eye-rann" & "eye-rack."
Is there a correct way to pronounce the two countries, and if so, how?

You are correct.
IRAQ- I RACK (normal people)
IRAN- I RAN (normal people)
IRAQ- E RACK (news people)
IRAN- E RAN (news people)
IRAQ- I RACK E (forign countrys)
IRAN- I RAN E or I RAN (forgin countrys)

i know people from Iran and Isreal. They both pronounce it with an 'E' sound
e-ron (like enron, without the n)
e-rock
In both cases, slightly rolling the r sound
I feel the correct pronounciation should be from the people who live there, not the rest of the world.

In French countries we pronounce them in this way:
Iran: e-ron
Irak: e-rak

hi i do believe you are saying them correctly.i live in Australia and we say them the same? i also sometimes hear eye-rackie for Iraq.don't you think its funny that news reporters are supposed to relay correctly for the world and their the ones stuffing up words??
