Never. His numbeer is retired and hanging in left field along with all of the other great retired Yankees. Even as the hitting coach he still wears his # 23.

Who cares? He failed on the field to lead his team to a championship, and he's failed as a coach to win anything either. Any team that has had Mattingly in some capacity has never won anything.
