My friend gave me a dozen of brown eggs after her parents in law gave her loads of eggs from their farm!

I was adviced by another friend to soak them in water and vinegar in order to sterelize them!! I did soak them but forgort about them for six hours.

Now the color is coming off and some ofthe eggs became white..Is that normal?? Did they paint the eggs brown or something? I've never seen anything like that!!!

First of all, why would you need to sterilize the eggshells? It does nothing to the inside of the egg. I could understand this if you were actually going to USE the eggshells for something, but I haven't come across any recipes that require the use of eggshells.
Second of all, why water and vinegar? I haven't heard about that before...although vinegar does have something in it that will help with killing bacteria.
Third of all, I don't think you need to worry about the color coming off the eggs. If you do this again, I don't suggest that you forget about them. They didn't paint them, the color must have oxidized off in the vinegar. Good luck!
